HARMONY is an Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS) project.
The overall objective of the project is to develop an internet based support system for startups,
SMEs and investors that will help to increase the yield of innovation projects.
The focus of this project is on SMEs operating in or servicing the manufacturing industry.
Currently the project has 17 partners from Australia, EU, Switzerland and USA.
In addition there are so-called "Circles of Experts" representing innovators, investors as well as support institutions.
The European part is funded by the European Union within the scope of Framework Programme 4 - Information technologies (ESPRIT IV).
HARMONY links to two IMS themes. First, it closely relates to strategy / planning / design tools.
The project will research, develop, and evaluate concepts, principles, methods, and tools for supporting SMEs in these areas.
Second, the project is closely linked to human / organization / social issues.
Studies by the project partners, as well as other studies, have shown that these types of issues are often barriers to innovation.
Indeed, these types of issues usually dominate technology management and commercialisation issues.
